On Tuesday, March 26, SDSN USA, in collaboration with Evolved Energy Research (EER) hosted the “EER’s Annual Decarbonization Perspective 2023 (ADP) & Decarbonization Pathways in the U.S.” webinar for subject matter experts, academics, and sustainable development practitioners interested in solutions and implementation strategies for “long-term deep decarbonization pathways” in the United States.
Moderated by Elena Crete, Head of the SDSN Climate & Energy Program, the event featured opening remarks by Dr. Gordon McCord, Co-Chair of SDSN USA at University of California, San Diego, followed by high-level government remarks by Chris Castro, Chief of Staff, State and Community Energy Programs at the U.S. Department of Energy.
The session then included an in-depth presentation by Prof. Jim Williams, Professor and Academic Director at the University of San Francisco and Senior Fellow at EER, and Ryan Jones, Co-Founder of EER, on the 2023 ADP report.
The webinar follows the 2023 ADP report’s detailed technical blueprints for the transition of the US economy to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, including the production and use of energy, the land carbon sink, and non-energy greenhouse gas emissions. The report and webinar series’ objective is to accelerate decarbonization and increase green energy across the United States.
The discussion also addressed options for “hard to decarbonize” industrial emissions, how new processes and technologies can help speed up decarbonization and should be promoted, and universities’ role in contributing to a carbon-neutral future.
