Welcoming Ambassador Sarah Mendelson, Carnegie Mellon University, as New SDSN USA Co-Chair!

Dear SDSN USA members,

We are thrilled to announce that SDSN USA welcomes a new co-host: Carnegie Mellon University! CMU is dedicated to aligning its education, research, and practice with the framework of the SDGs and is keen on elevating a focus on data to advance the 2030 Agenda. The new university co-host is looking forward to actively working with the member base to accelerate progress on the SDGs in the US during this critical mid-point on the path to 2030.

Simultaneously, Ambassador Sarah Mendelson has been appointed co-Chair of the network, and will work with Dr. Helen Bond and Dr. Gordon McCord on the strategic direction of the USA network. Sarah is a sustainability leader, previously engaged at USAID in the creation of the SDGs from 2010 to 2014, and then as US Ambassador to the UN’s Economic and Social Council helping elevate awareness and advance the SDGs as they relate to human rights from 2015 to 2017. She has served as co-Chair of CMU’s Sustainability Initiative since 2019, and most recently, she held a strategic convening at The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center to co-create a Community of Practice dedicated to teaching and training on human rights within the SDG framework. Please visit her CMU profile page to access her full bio and contact details.

We are confident that the leadership and experience that Sarah Mendelson and CMU bring to the network will only strengthen SDSN USA’s role in seeking and implementing large-scale, transformative change towards SDG achievement.

As always, you can keep up-to-date with these and other announcements at www.sdsnusa.org,  and follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn. If you have any questions regarding this update to the network’s governance, please email us at usa@unsdsn.org.

Sincerely,
